Introduction

Today we were assigned our groups and began discussing the conventions of music videos and how some of our more personally memorable films used those conventions. We discussed what we liked about the films and began talking about the 3 main types of music videos (Narrative, Performance, Abstract). Once we had finished discussing how these music video types related to our chosen music videos we then began research. I looked at Plan B- Prayin' and whilst looking carefully at the video and previous music videos he's made i discovered that his films are actually a mixture of all 3 types of music video. his music videos always have some sort of narrative for example prayin' is about him being sent to prison and we watch his story from when he enters till when the whole prison attempt to escape. he also does elements of performance as he is in his prison cell singing to himself and also has the abstract element linking into the performance when they start dancing which breaks the conventions of realistic narrative however it also relates to the the narrative. i also researched Drake- Miss me. This song is mainly performance based but has elements of abstract. The video sees Drake majority of the time performing the song but has loads of quick shots of things that don't relate to the song for example the beginning starts with time remapping of drake having thrown a bottle at a wall and it also shows occasional shots of a woman dancing although it has no relation to the song whatsoever.
