Blog Update (11.12.10)

On my lesson on Thursday we uploaded the footage my group shot when I was unavailable. After reviewing the footage, we agreed that we would need to re-shoot the footage. We also misjudged how bright it was at the location so we discussed how we would overcome this problem. We decided we would shoot at the school astro turf which we believed would be good as it is bright and the kids would be more available if it were shot on school grounds. Nonetheless we still did edit the footage into our music video just so we could get a visual of how our video should look.

Digipak Initial Ideas

Today i began devising my initial ideas for how intended my digipak to look. As the main protagonist in our video was professor green i chose to have and image with him and the lions as the cover (following on from the iconography of the animals). At the top was the artist name in calligraphy font the same to the one i used in my banner. at the bottom was a big bold font saying jungle which will be the same font to the writing in my website. On the back was an image of the Gorillas with Mavrick at their 'habitat' (the skate park where they fight). Below it would be the The track list and at the top left would be My label logo i created. Inside will be the face off images we have at the end of the music video. The gorillas on one side and the lions on the other.

Digipak Research

Above are images of tinie tempah's; website, album, video. When making my digipak its important that all of the media represent the iconography of my artist. I believe the iconography of Tinie tempah is represented well through all the media, not just as an artist but as the genre. Every media used has an image of Tinie wearing black shades, which is not only an iconography to him but to his genre. they also all have bright neon colours like purple shining over him, so the colour scheme is the same throughout all his media.

Blog Update

Last week my group began the second half of filming. unfortunately I was unable to attend it as I had to attend a still life drawing class for my art work. however I spoke to my group and they told me they did manage to shoot something however the main character(pro. green) was not there and the performances was not to the best of their ability so they were unable to complete the filming and we will need to reschedule to shoot. We would have rescheduled earlier but due to weather conditions it has been difficult for us to meet up.

CD Cover Analysis

Professor Green

1. The genre for this album is hip hop/pop. This is shown in the cove as like most pop covers the attention is mostly drawn to the image of the artist. The artists face is neutral with no expression suggesting that he is completely serious about his music.

2. The Target audience are young people between the ages of 16-25. This is shown in the cover and in his music subject and genre which appeals to this age group. His music tends to be music that people dance to and most teens appeal to this type of this music because they are young and carefree.

3. I believe his iconography is successful. This is shown as the cover is simple with just an image and a title which I believe reflects his music because his music is essentially simple.

50 Cent
1. The genre for this cover is gangster rap. The cover centres around an image of 50 cent topless with loads of tattoos and 'pen' marks around his body. this makes him look like a tough guy and the serious expression on his face makes him look like someone not to be messed with. Also the title is in graffiti showing that he is a gangster because graffiti is a crime and is therefore associated with criminals and gangs.

2. The Target audience for this cover would be for males around the ages of 18-25. the cover sees 50 cent topless with gloves, a hat and a chain(iconography in Hip Hop/Rap). by him being the central image it makes the audience want to be more like him because of how muscular him and the tough guy look he has. He us also looking down which makes him look more powerful and males are notorious for constantly searching for power due to 'male pride'.

3. The cover represents the iconography well. This is shown because the font used is graffiti and is commonly associated with rap. The colour seems to be more white and black which is used more for seriousness as opposed to bright colours like pink and purple and gangster rap is supposed to be serious.

Scouting for Girls

1. The genre of this album is indie/rock. This is shown in the cover because of its simplicity (used a lot in indie covers). Not only that, but their image abstract (a boat) and no relation to them. This is done a lot in this genre and shows that they are not trying to sell themselves but their music.

2. The target audience for this cover would be an existing fan base of 18-30 year olds (mature audiences). This is shown as they do not have their album title there so to know what album it was you’d need to know the band. Not only that but the album is plain with just a small image and the band logo which connotes that they are more about the music than the image which is appealing to a mature audience.

3. The cover is very effective in establishing the iconography. The image is abstract and other than the title, the image is mostly blank. Alongside that the colour scheme is plain and subtle which indie artist use often.
